A distress call was received early Sunday afternoon on the SOS phone number of the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service from a hiking group. The caller explained that the woman hiking with the group had suddenly become very ill, with a low pulse. She was conscious but in poor condition. The caller was able to provide exact coordinates, revealing that they were near Perőcsény on the red square trail.
The mountain rescue dispatcher assessed the situation as potentially very serious and asked the caller to contact the National Ambulance Service directly while the mountain rescue service notified the Disaster Management and the Nagymaros Volunteer Fire Department. Two standby mountain rescuers from the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service immediately headed to their Szokolya base, from where they started their journey toward Perőcsény in the service jeep.
The Disaster Management also alerted the Vámosmikola Municipal Fire Department to the scene, designating Diófa Street in Perőcsény as the meeting point.
The National Ambulance Service staff and the mountain rescuers were the first to arrive at the meeting point. The ambulance staff joined the mountain rescuers in their jeep and started heading towards the provided coordinates along the red square trail. The team was able to get within 150 meters of the hikers with the jeep, from where they continued on foot. (Did you know that our nearly 30-year-old jeep is on its last legs, and we have launched a community fundraising campaign to replace it? Please support the purchase of a new vehicle, more details here)
At the scene, the National Ambulance Service staff examined the woman and, after initial treatment, deemed her stable for transport. The Vámosmikola Municipal Firefighters and Nagymaros Volunteer Firefighters, who had arrived at the meeting point in the meantime, set off for the given coordinates to assist with a possible stretcher transport. Fortunately, they only needed to help carry rescue equipment, as the woman was successfully placed in the jeep and transported to the waiting ambulance.
The National Ambulance Service transported the woman in stable condition to Vác Hospital for further examination. We wish her a speedy recovery!
The Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service has carried out yet another joint operation with the Nagymaros Volunteer Fire Department and the Vámosmikola Municipal Fire Department to rescue hikers in distress in the Börzsöny!

We need to purchase something extremely important for the association: a jeep!
Currently, we are using an almost 30-year-old Terrano II, which is on its last legs! We have received HUF 4 million in support (50% funding intensity) from the Active Hungary Program within the Active and Ecotourism Development Center Nonprofit Limited Liability Company. This means we already have half of the estimated HUF 8 million needed for the vehicle.
We need an additional HUF 4 million, though more wouldn’t hurt, as we could choose a newer vehicle, and there will be other costs (emergency lights, equipment, etc.) even if the vehicle is in top condition. We ask everyone to donate according to their ability so we can purchase our rescue vehicle.
