On Monday late afternoon, Disaster Management received an alert about a fire at the Nagy-Hideg-hegy tourist lodge. The operations center dispatched multiple units to the scene, including professional firefighters from Vác, Rétság, Balassagyarmat, and Szécsény, as well as municipal firefighters from Vámosmikola and volunteer firefighters from Nagymaros.

The Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service was among the first units to arrive at the scene, assisting the National Ambulance Service vehicles as they arrived. Later, two additional mountain rescue units provided further support by transporting personnel and equipment with off-road vehicles.
Fortunately, all necessary fire trucks were able to reach the tourist lodge from the Cseresznyefa parking area, and firefighters managed to extinguish the fire by partially dismantling the roof structure.

As it turned out, workers renovating the tourist lodge had lit a fire in the fireplace, and for unknown reasons, the roof structure around the chimney began to smolder and then caught fire. Fortunately, thanks to the expertise of the firefighters, the flames did not spread to the rest of the building.

The Nagy-Hideg-hegy tourist lodge closed earlier in the spring, and renovation work began in the summer. According to plans, the lodge was expected to reopen sometime during the winter.
