The SOS line of the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service received an emergency call around noon on Thursday. The injured man reported that while hiking from Csóványos towards Diósjenő, his ankle twisted and snapped after passing the Három-barát Saddle on the green trail. Following the rescuer's instructions, he sent his exact position via SMS (read about emergency calls here).
Based on the position, the rescuer determined that no special rescue was needed since the location was easily accessible by an off-road vehicle. As a precaution, a unit from the Nagymaros Volunteer Fire Department was placed on standby.
The on-duty rescuer soon arrived at the scene with an off-road vehicle, where he cooled and stabilized the man's broken ankle before transporting him to Királyrét.
The ankle was further cooled with ice provided by the Királyrét Snack Bar until the National Ambulance Service's vehicle from Szob arrived. The paramedics transported the man to the Vác hospital, where doctors later confirmed the fracture.
We urgently need to purchase a crucial piece of equipment for the association: an off-road vehicle!
Currently, we use a nearly 30-year-old Terrano II, which is on its last legs! Through the Active Hungary Program, we received 4 million HUF in support (50% funding) from the Active and Ecotourism Development Center Nonprofit LLC. This covers half of the estimated 8 million HUF cost of the vehicle.
We need an additional 4 million HUF, and of course, if more is raised, we can choose an even newer vehicle. There will also be additional costs (emergency signals, equipment, etc.) even if the vehicle is tip-top. We ask everyone to donate according to their ability so we can purchase our rescue vehicle.
