A distress call was received on the SOS phone number of the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service on Saturday afternoon at 17:45. The caller, a man, said that he and his partner had started from Csóványos about 2 hours ago on the red triangle trail, heading north, as he estimated, but they were actually heading to the Cseresznyefa parking lot. The man explained that he believed they were lost, completely exhausted, and had no map or navigation on their phone.
With the help of the on-duty mountain rescuer, they were able to check their position, as every smartphone can send its location via SMS (read about the ways to request help here). The on-duty rescuer determined that the hikers were located about 200 meters north of Pogányvár on the red triangle trail. Following the rescuer's guidance, the distressed hikers started back towards Csóványos but mentioned that they were very tired and feared it would get dark before they could reach their destination.
The hikers stopped at the Pogányvár saddle, and after the mountain rescue dispatcher further refined their location, two standby rescuers from the Szokolya base immediately set off in a jeep along the Foltán Cross-Nyír Meadow Castle Ruins route to reach them. Please support the purchase of a new vehicle, more details here) In the last section of the route, fallen trees obstructed the path, so the final few hundred meters had to be covered on foot.
The mountain rescuers found the distressed hikers safe but exhausted at 19:05, just 47 minutes later. They did not require medical assistance, so the rescuers only escorted them safely to the nearest village, Királyrét.

We need to purchase something extremely important for the association: a jeep!
Currently, we are using an almost 30-year-old Terrano II, which is on its last legs! We have received HUF 4 million in support (50% funding intensity) from the Active Hungary Program within the Active and Ecotourism Development Center Nonprofit Limited Liability Company. This means we already have half of the estimated HUF 8 million needed for the vehicle.
We need an additional HUF 4 million, though more wouldn’t hurt, as we could choose a newer vehicle, and there will be other costs (emergency lights, equipment, etc.) even if the vehicle is in top condition. We ask everyone to donate according to their ability so we can purchase our rescue vehicle.
