Head Injury on Kopasz Hill (2025.12.25.) - 20251225mentes2

Early in the afternoon on December 25, emergency services were dispatched to one of the Börzsöny Mountains' popular hiking trails. Two young women were hiking along the Green Trail from Márianosztra towards Érsek Meadow when one of them slipped on the muddy, rain-soaked ground near Kopasz-hegy and fell, striking her head.

Her hiking companion immediately called the 112 emergency number. In response, the Hungarian National Ambulance Service, the Vác Professional Fire Brigade, the Nagymaros Volunteer Fire Brigade, and the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service were all dispatched to the scene. The Pest County Search and Rescue Service also assisted with the coordination of the operation.

The responding units met in Márianosztra at the beginning of Szőlő Street, where the Green Trail starts. From there, rescuers continued along the forest roads using the off-road vehicles of the Nagymaros Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service. Fortunately, the injured hiker was located in a relatively accessible area on a forestry road.

Although the initial examination revealed no obvious serious injuries, the mechanism of the accident—a direct impact to the head—required extra caution. Following the guidance of the ambulance crew, the rescuers placed the patient onto a spinal stretcher, secured her with full spinal immobilisation, and carefully transported her by the mountain rescue off-road vehicle back to Márianosztra.
