Szokolya is the home of the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service. Many of our members live here, and even those who travel from neighbouring communities feel at home at our rescue base. We receive tremendous support from the municipality, its residents, and the Mayor. It is only natural that we do everything we can to give something back, so we were especially pleased when Mayor Csilla Némethné Pintér invited us to organise a practical first aid training session for the community.
On Friday evening, we conducted a comprehensive first aid course with excellent attendance. Participants included staff from the local primary school, kindergarten and nursery, representatives of the municipal office, members of the School Foundation, staff from the local sports club and the Szalajka Community Centre, as well as a general practitioner's assistant and the local field ranger. We were delighted to welcome participants from such a wide range of backgrounds, because emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time.
The training combined theory with extensive hands-on practice. Participants learned adult and paediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), how to recognise and respond to anaphylactic shock, and the essential first aid procedures for a variety of emergency situations.
We believe it is especially important that participants practise these skills themselves, because in a real emergency, confidence and the ability to act quickly can save a life.
As mountain rescuers, we witness every day how critical the first few minutes are. In many situations, the immediate actions of bystanders make the difference until professional medical help arrives. That is why we firmly believe that knowing how to help saves lives.
We would like to thank the Municipality of Szokolya, Mayor Csilla Némethné Pintér, and everyone who participated for their openness and enthusiasm. The evening reinforced our belief that a well-prepared community provides greater safety for everyone.
The Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service looks forward to organising similar training sessions and community programmes in the future.
