Serious shoulder injury at the Pond (2024.08.19.) - 20240819 2

The SOS phone number of the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service received a call from a man at 1:00 PM on Monday, requesting help after a serious fall from his bike, resulting in a severe shoulder injury. He explained that he was biking on the red triangle – green stripe hiking trail when he slipped badly after riding over a tree root. The man was able to provide his GPS coordinates to the mountain rescue dispatcher, who determined that the injured person was only 150-200 meters from Csóványos. The man also mentioned that he had already called the 112 emergency number and that the National Ambulance Service was on its way.

The mountain rescue dispatcher alerted the rescuers on standby in Szokolya, and about fifteen minutes later, two rescuers set off from the Szokolya base towards Csóványos in the service jeep. (Did you know that our nearly 30-year-old jeep is on its last legs, and we have launched a community fundraising campaign to replace it? Please support the purchase of a new vehicle, more details here).

Meanwhile, the mountain rescue dispatcher contacted the National Ambulance Service’s emergency coordinators in Nógrád, who informed them that the ambulance from Rétság had been dispatched to the scene and that the paramedics would start from Diósjenő towards Csóványos using a local forester's jeep. The teams were to meet at Csóványos.

As the paramedics, aided by the forestry service, made their way from Diósjenő, and the mountain rescuers approached from Szokolya, the injured man called the mountain rescue service again. He reported that, with the help of a passing hiker, he had started moving towards Csóványos and would wait there for the rescue teams. He complained that his pain was becoming increasingly severe.

The mountain rescuers were the first to reach Csóványos and immediately provided first aid to the injured man. Shortly after, the National Ambulance Service personnel arrived and provided advanced care.

The teams jointly transported the injured man and his bike to Diósjenő, from where the National Ambulance Service took him to Vác Hospital for further treatment.

During the long weekend of August 20th, this was the second time the mountain rescuers were called to the Börzsöny.

We need to purchase something extremely important for the association: a jeep!
Currently, we are using an almost 30-year-old Terrano II, which is on its last legs! We have received HUF 4 million in support (50% funding intensity) from the Active Hungary Program within the Active and Ecotourism Development Center Nonprofit Limited Liability Company. This means we already have half of the estimated HUF 8 million needed for the vehicle.

We need an additional HUF 4 million, though more wouldn’t hurt, as we could choose a newer vehicle, and there will be other costs (emergency lights, equipment, etc.) even if the vehicle is in top condition. We ask everyone to donate according to their ability so we can purchase our rescue vehicle.
