Around 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service received a distress call: a 25-year-old woman hiking with a group suffered an accident in the Törökmező area. According to eyewitnesses, she slipped on dry, crumbly ground and slid down a steep hillside all the way into the bed of the Malom stream. As a result of the fall, she sustained an elbow dislocation along with multiple abrasions.
The service’s on-duty dispatcher immediately alerted mountain rescuers, dispatching two members to the site, and also notified the National Ambulance Service that the victim would be transported to the Törökmező tourist house parking lot.
On site, the rescuers provided first aid and safely escorted her out of the terrain. The mountain rescue team and the paramedics met in Törökmező, where they handed her over to the ambulance crew. She was then transported by ambulance to the hospital in Vác for further care.
Dry, loose soil poses a serious hazard in the Börzsöny, especially on steep slopes. In recent years, increasingly dry weather (leading to drying soil) has been contributing to a growing number of accidents of this kind.
