Reconnaissance Soldiers in the Börzsöny Mountains (2026.03.18.) - 20260316 3

The Hungarian Defence Forces' Bornemissza Gergely 2nd Reconnaissance Regiment is currently conducting its Reserve Reconnaissance Basic Training Course in the Börzsöny Mountains. The programme provides reservists with the fundamental skills required for reconnaissance operations.

Professional soldiers and reservists are training together, carrying out day and night navigation exercises, patrols, and field movements using terrain analysis and land navigation techniques. Throughout the exercise, participants face a variety of tactical tasks requiring continuous decision-making, helping to strengthen their leadership and operational skills.

Throughout the exercise, the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service is providing operational support to the military medical team. If a soldier is injured or requires evacuation from the field, our mountain rescuers are prepared to intervene immediately.

For the entire duration of the training, one of our mountain rescuers has been deployed as a liaison officer at the military's field base. His role is twofold:
- providing local terrain knowledge and operational support to the Hungarian Defence Forces' medical personnel;
- maintaining continuous communication with mountain rescue teams on standby using our deployed operational computers and radio network.

On the first day of the exercise, the mountain rescuers and military medics exchanged professional experience, familiarised themselves with each other's equipment and rescue capabilities, and coordinated procedures for emergency call-outs and casualty evacuations.

Based on the planned training routes, the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service had already prepared detailed emergency access routes to all exercise areas before the training began. These routes were shared with the military medical personnel to ensure that, if assistance is required, rescue teams can reach any location by the fastest possible route.

The Börzsöny Mountains remain open to everyone—hikers, walkers, cyclists, and other outdoor enthusiasts alike. If you happen to encounter reconnaissance soldiers in the forest, please remember that they are taking part in a field training exercise, practising how to move across the terrain while remaining as concealed as possible.

And while they train, we'll be watching from the background—ready to help whenever we're needed.

We are volunteers into a non-profit organisation. Please be cool and support us.
