Hiker Injures Ankle Near the Morgó Stream (2026.03.19.) - 20260319 2

On Thursday afternoon, the woman set out from the end of Béke Street in Verőce for a short walk along the Morgó Stream. About 420 metres from the end of the road, she twisted her ankle and was no longer able to walk.

The Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service was first alerted by the Hungarian National Ambulance Service and shortly afterwards by the National Directorate General for Disaster Management. As the mountain rescuers were already on heightened standby due to their ongoing cooperation with the Hungarian Defence Forces, they were able to deploy within minutes.

Just ten to fifteen minutes later, the rescue team arrived at the end of Béke Street in Verőce, where they met the Hungarian National Ambulance Service crew—one of the paramedics was also a volunteer member of the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service. From there, the teams continued on foot with the specialised wheeled mountain rescue stretcher and reached the injured hiker just 25 minutes after the initial emergency call.

The mountain rescuers and ambulance personnel assessed and treated the woman, who was believed to have sustained ligament injuries to her ankle. They were then joined by firefighters from the Vác Professional Fire Brigade, and together the teams carried the patient on the rescue stretcher back to the waiting ambulance for transport to hospital.
