Ankle Injury on Nagy-Hideg Mountain (2026.04.02.) - 20260402 1

At 4:40 p.m. on Thursday, the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service received a call from a teacher accompanying a high school class. The group had been hiking from the Kisinóc Tourist Lodge towards Nagy-Hideg-hegy when two graduating students began complaining of ankle pain.

After consulting with the teacher, the mountain rescue dispatcher advised the rest of the class and the accompanying teachers to begin walking back towards Kisinóc before darkness fell. The two injured students were asked to remain at the Nagy-Hideg-hegy Tourist Lodge and wait for the rescuers.

Less than thirty minutes later, two mountain rescuers arrived at Nagy-Hideg-hegy. Our paramedic examined both students and determined that while one girl's symptoms were most likely caused by overexertion and fatigue, the other had sustained what appeared to be a more serious ankle injury.

Following the examination, the rescuers decided to transport the injured student, together with her accompanying teacher, to the hospital in Vác for further medical evaluation. They also remained in contact with the teacher leading the class, who later drove to the hospital to meet them.

The operation was completed without incident, and the rest of the class returned safely to Kisinóc.
