On Sunday afternoon, the Ipoly Valley Special Rescue Association notified the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service that a hiker had called the 112 emergency number from somewhere near Foltán Cross on the Nógrád County side of the Börzsöny Mountains. Shortly after requesting help, the call was disconnected.
The duty incident commander of the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service immediately coordinated with the Nógrád County Directorate for Disaster Management and the Hungarian National Ambulance Service, while simultaneously deploying the mountain rescuers on standby in Szokolya.
Meanwhile, rescue teams from the Ipoly Valley Special Rescue Association, the Diósjenő Volunteer Fire Brigade, and the Rétság Professional Fire Brigade began searching from the Diósjenő side of the mountain.
Based on the initial information, the Börzsöny mountain rescuers started searching from Királyrét, focusing on the Hadi Road and the Szénpatak Mountain Hut area. A few minutes later, the rescue coordination centre successfully determined the exact location from which the emergency call had originated, identifying it near the Saj-kút Cut.
Shortly afterwards, the mountain rescuers encountered the injured hiker, who had already started walking towards Királyrét despite his injury. They immediately transported him to Királyrét, where a waiting ambulance from the Hungarian National Ambulance Service took over his care.
The patient, who had suffered an ankle injury, was transported to the hospital in Vác for further examination and treatment.
