Cyclists got lost (2026.06.01.) - 20260601 1

On Monday evening, the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service received an emergency call from two men—a father and his son—who had become lost while mountain biking in the mountains. Their bicycles had become stuck in deep mud at an unfamiliar location, and as the weather continued to deteriorate, they decided to abandon the bikes and continue on foot.

Without a map, the two men walked for quite some time through heavy rain and the increasingly dark forest before they were finally able to make a phone call for help.

Fortunately, they occasionally had mobile phone coverage, allowing the mountain rescue dispatcher to quickly determine the location of their phones. A mountain rescuer immediately set out from the rescue base in Szokolya. At that time, the two men were still more than six kilometres from Nagyirtáspuszta, darkness had fallen, and it was raining heavily.

Meanwhile, an employee of Ipoly Erdő Ltd., who was working in the area, came across the two exhausted, soaked, and cold hikers beside a forestry road. He brought them into his vehicle and immediately informed the mountain rescue dispatcher that the missing persons had been found.

A few minutes later, the mountain rescuers arrived, and together with the forestry staff safely transported the father and son back to their accommodation.

Fortunately, apart from being cold and wet, neither of them had suffered any injuries, and no first aid or medical treatment was required.
