Hiker with a leg injury at the Vilma Rest Area (2026.08.29.) - 20260829 1 2

At 3 p.m., the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service received a call from a hiker. He explained that he was walking from Csóványos peak towards Nagy-Hideg-hegy peak when another hiker, running uphill from the direction of Szabó-kövek, stopped him and asked for help. According to the information he had received, a woman had been seriously injured further down the trail.

The caller said that he would head towards the casualty and call again once he had found her, so that he could provide a more precise location and further information about her condition.
Meanwhile, the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service duty officer alerted the three mountain rescuers on duty in Szokolya and contacted the Nógrád County operations control centre of the Disaster Management Authority as well as the Ipoly Valley Special Rescue Association.

Shortly afterwards, the hiker who had offered to help called again. By then, he had reached the casualty and was able to confirm her exact location: the woman was at Vilma-pihenő. He reported that she had suffered a serious injury to her leg but appeared to have no other injuries.

At the time, a member of the Ipoly Valley Special Rescue Association happened to be at the ambulance station in Diósjenő. He therefore set off towards Csóványos peak together with personnel from the Hungarian National Ambulance Service and the necessary rescue equipment.

At the same time, the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service team approached Csóványos via the Szénpatak–Foltán route.

Approximately 35 minutes later, the teams from the Ipoly Valley Special Rescue Association and the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service met the Hungarian National Ambulance Service personnel at Csóványos. From there, they continued towards the casualty on foot, descending approximately 250 metres along the steep trail.

At the scene, the Hungarian National Ambulance Service personnel examined the injured woman while the mountain rescuers assembled the wheeled mountain rescue stretcher they had brought with them.
Once the ambulance crew had treated and stabilised the casualty for transport, the physically most demanding part of the rescue began.

The woman had to be carried on the mountain rescue stretcher back up the same steep trail all the way to Csóványos peak. Although this involved a considerable ascent, every other possible evacuation route would have been significantly longer.

Through the coordinated efforts of the Ipoly Valley Special Rescue Association, the Hungarian National Ambulance Service and the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service, the injured woman was successfully transported up to Csóványos peak.

From there, the teams jointly transported her in the Ipoly Valley Special Rescue Association's off-road vehicle to the ambulance waiting in Diósjenő.

The Hungarian National Ambulance Service subsequently transported the casualty to the hospital in Vác for further examination and treatment.

Hegyvidéki mentésnél a pontos helyszín ismerete rendkívül fontos.
