On Sunday morning at 9 AM, a hiker called for help on the SOS number of the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service, having injured himself near Drégelyvár. The man reported that he slipped while hiking and fell on his ankle, experiencing severe pain and being unable to stand on it.
The duty officer of the mountain rescue service assessed the situation and decided that it would take too long for the mountain rescue unit to arrive from the Szokolya base. Instead, since the location was relatively easily accessible, he alerted the Nógrád County Disaster Management Operations Control as well as the Ipoly Valley Special Rescue Association.
Following the alert, the Professional Firefighters from Rétság and the Ipoly Valley Special Rescuers from Balassagyarmat immediately headed to the scene. The firefighters from Rétság were able to get as close as 500 meters to the injured person from Nagyoroszi, then continued on foot.
The firefighters from Rétság were the first to reach the injured person, placed him on a stretcher, and immediately started back with him. They were later joined by the Ipoly Valley Special Rescuers and the National Ambulance Service personnel.
The injured person was taken by ambulance with an ankle injury to the Balassagyarmat Hospital for further examination and treatment.
