Warning signs at the Hermit Cave (2024.09.26.) - tablak2

In 2024, the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service had numerous interventions in the Saint Michael area and at the Remete Cave, with the most common injury being a broken ankle or similar. While the Remete Cave itself is not considered particularly dangerous, the paths leading to it present various challenges: the trails are very steep in many places, the ground is slippery in rainy weather, and during prolonged dry periods, it becomes crumbly. Based on the mountain rescue team's experience, most injuries occurred during dry weather, when hikers slipped on the dusty, crumbly ground and twisted their ankles.

In light of the increasing accidents, the Hungarian Hiking Association suggested that warning signs be placed in multiple locations where the Remete Cave can be accessed.

Staff of the Hiking Association designed the signs based on the experiences and suggestions of the Börzsöny mountain rescuers, aligning them with the association's nationwide warning system.

The implementation was undertaken by Ipoly Erdő Zrt., which handed the signs over to the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service for installation once completed.

Members of the Mountain Rescue Service and staff from the Hungarian Hiking Association worked together to place the warning signs in three locations: at the S+ KΩ intersection, the S and SΩ intersection, and at the Saint Michael saddle.

The Hungarian Hiking Association, Ipoly-Erdő Zrt., and the Börzsöny Mountain Rescue Service hope that the installed warning signs will help prevent accidents.
